How Writing in a Journal Helps Prevent Stress
Stress is a lot more harmful than you might realize. Not only can it cause you to feel overwhelmed and worried, chronic stress can eventually cause physical health problems due to its effect on your hormones. To prevent stress, there are many things you can do, but few of them are as easy and gratifying as writing in a journal. Here are just a few ways journal writing helps you avoid stress.
Writing a journal helps you examine your life. You can reflect on the occurrences of the day and think about what you could have done differently. You can even look back over time to see how your feelings have changed. This kind of reflection aligns you more closely with your thoughts and feelings, which can help you identify sources of stress and prevent them in the future.
Not only does writing help you examine your life, it is a definite relaxing event because the very act of writing gives you a break. When you are writing in your journal, you can count on peace and quiet in the middle of a hectic day. Get a cup of chamomile tea, sit down with a pencil with grips or a pen, and start to write. Just a few minutes of quiet writing and you are sure to feel rejuvenated.
The simple act of taking a few moments to write in a journal can decrease and prevent your stress, not only because you examine your life, but because you take time to quiet your mind and explore your feelings and thoughts. Take a few moments a day to jot down a few notes, and experience how much more relaxed you feel.

Personally, when I get stressed out I start to get rashes and bumps on my elbows and if I don't find a way to relieve the stress it only gets worse. I had never thought about writing a journal to lower my stress, but it might just be exactly what I need! - ASureMAn on 3/23/2012
